About the Artists

Mike Martin
Mike Martin has been working in clay for 10 years. From the workshops at Hood College of Frederick, Maryland, to his summers at Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington, Pennsylvania, he has developed his craft and artistry. Every kiln load can be a mystery of colors each time he fires a gas, electric, raku or wood kiln. He likes to layer different glazes over each other to create movement and multi colors. The forms are traditional for his functional and decorative pieces.

Carl Wood
From trout streams to oceans, Carl Wood has spent most of his life in or on the water. He has previously lived aboard and cruised "Adventure," a 39 foot cutter rigged sailboat. Mr. Wood feels a definite void when away from the water too long. He fills this emptiness by creatively expressing his connection to the water through his work as an artist. His professional training includes drawing, oil painting and watercolor at The Art League School in Alexandria, VA; and Design at the International Institute of Interior Design in Washington DC. Mr. Wood currently lives on the Chesapeake Bay in Solomons Island, Maryland. This environment allows him the ability to capture, in watercolors, that spirit felt in special places along the coast to share with others.
