The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL), which is affiliated with the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), will open its show, “Imagine,” Saturday, April 12, 2008, 5-7 PM at CHAW, 545 7th Street SE. The show continues through May 3rd.
The juror for “Imagine” is David Daniels, an accomplished watercolorist. He is described as an artist “who displays a remarkable range of experimentation with this medium and a unique personal sense of composition and color. His impressionistic style gives new freshness to the beauty of nature, and his sense of color is inspired. The influence of his former training as a botanist and biologist are evident and his love and reverence for nature are endemic to his work." (Montpelier Cultural Art Center)
Daniels earned a Masters of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University. After 15 years of teaching in the Michigan public school system he moved to Washington, DC to pursue an art career. David also teaches painting at Montgomery College, the Smithsonian Institution and privately in his Silver Spring studio.
At 7 PM, April 12th, CHAW will present an hour concert of dance and music in its Black Box Theater, featuring Tommy Parlon, a native of Washington, D.C., and the Artistic Director of Tommy Parlon Dance Projects. Parlon, received his M.F.A. in Dance (Choreography and Technology) from Arizona State University and his B.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. From 1998-2002 he was an Assistant Professor of Dance at Kent State University. While in New York City he danced with J. Fregalette Janson Dance, Centaur Dance Theatre, Beyondance Inc! and the Paris based multi-media performance art company FIASCO. Parlon has danced in pieces by Doug Varone, Stephen Petronio, Alvin Mayes, Laura Dean and Elizabeth Streb. His choreography has been commissioned by Incidents Physical Theater of New York City, NEW ARTiculations in Tucson, Arizona, Lansing Chamber Dance in Michigan, and numerous colleges throughout the United States. He received an Individual Artist Award in Solo Dance Performance from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2004.
Admission to “Imagine” is free.
